Its interesting that he met these people, and how he compares them before, and after the revolt. I think he also used very strong, and detailed words to describe this poem.

Ireland changed in spite of British soldiers and harsh rule. The rebels refused to bend to events, but were transformed through martyrdom. Yeats tried to hold himself aloof and apart from the Rising, but found he could not. We are all "...changed, changed utterly."
