I, too came Googling Yeats' Brown Penny after hearing it in Must Love Dogs. I love the loops line because I love getting looped in the loops of my love's hair.

the poem evokes an emotion that most of us wish we did not experience.it speaks of how we make excuses and we try to put love on hold till we are ready.but we all know love does not use our time.

I to once adored poetry like this and never missed a single romantic movie. That was before it became painfully apparent that love is a lie and that the notion that there's someone for everyone is not only completely untrue but absolutely absurd. Poems and movies like these do nothing but fool us into believing the unbelievable. Love and romance are dead, dead, DEAD!

Oh,see what a movie has done! I loved this poem when I saw the movie Must Love Dogs, and How wonderful the Internet is! I got it, and copied, and I'm thinking I should add it to my space to share with my friends.
Love is beautiful, but sometimes it's desperate.

Must love Yates! :) this poem added nice flavor to the movie's theme..that of self-doubt & the psychological age barrier. the essence of love is different for everyone, so many shades to it, honesty, fun, sympathy, company. Has to be discovered individually. Its most important to have faith in love...although sometimes there's pain, its always there to the rescue (maybe in other forms).

I also know this poem from the movie and I liked it a lot. One question Does penny also mean a person's name? A first love of Yeats' perhaps?

I have been thinking of "Brown Penny" since I saw the lovely rendition in "Must Love Dogs." I see from the other comments that I am not alone--I am thrilled that a movie could inspire people to find a poem! The beautiful sounds and images of Yeats' work is mystically mesmerizing. He captures the experience of love perfectly, and I think he is the wise one and has found out "all that is in it" but leaves the mystery intact. If you liked "Brown Penny" look up "The Song of the Wandering Angus." It is wonderful too.

I heard this poem the first time on "One life to live" and fell in love with it. It is in a book of poetry published based on the soapopera. I have been looking for it for years. So happy I found it!

I also heard this poem in "Must Love Dogs". I was drawn to it by the way it expresses the questions about love and the trepidation one feels when finding someone. I can feel longing and sybolism in his verses.
