this is a tragic classic acccount of sudden infant death from accidental asphyxiation caused by an exhausted mother overlaying her baby, and the terrible ostracism she suffered as a consequence

Yeats is a wondeful poet, don't get me wrong, but in this poem, he lets himself down as his quest to poetically create an Ireland that fits with the nationalist, Young Ireland movement's nostalgic and celtic dream, he slips into cliche, stereotype and self and national pity.
