Ted Hughes - Full Moon and Little Frieda

A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket -
And you listening.
A spider's web, tense for the dew's touch.
A pail lifted, still and brimming - mirror
To tempt a first star to a tremor.

Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm
wreaths of breath -
A dark river of blood, many boulders,
Balancing unspilled milk.
'Moon!' you cry suddenly, 'Moon! Moon!'

The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work
That points at him amazed.

full moon and little frieda

Ted Hughes poem is like a painting that unravels itself bit by bit.Heightening in beauty with every stroke. There is pure innocence reflected in little frieda.Truly a magical poem.

This wonderful poem made me feel many different kinds of emotion. It made me feel calm and peaceful by the way Ted Hughes captures the beautiful moon and its surroundings. Its also great in the fact that he shows that Frieda is the moon's most finest creation. This shows that he loves his daughter dearly. Ted Hughes is well and truly a poetry genius.

Full Moon and Little Frieda

I thought that this poem was really well written. I like the way in which Ted Hughes makes a lot of vidid images in your mind. You can picture a lot of snapshots in your mind when you read the poem and you can also sort of feel the atmosphere of the poem. The way in which Ted Hughes wrote this poem based on the love that he has with his daughter is very touching because from this, there is evidence that he loves her dearly and loves spending time with her.
