Heaney's poem "Casualty" is filled with images of death and dying but it is also rooted firmly in this world. His elegy not only mourn great losses but also celebrate those who have gone before us. The poignancy of the poem and the death of the poet friend is sensed powerfully through the simple yet forceful language.
