Analysis and comments on A Grammarian's Funeral by Robert Browning

Comment 1 of 1, added on July 16th, 2005 at 7:37 AM.

This poem gives every indication of extolling the grammarian's academic labours. But I suspect there is a heavily veiled undercurrent of irony. The ordinary fellow keeps adding one and one, and hits his target. The lofty man aims for a million, and misses a unit. The implication is that this unit may be of crucial importance.
