Analysis and comments on CHARMIDES by Oscar Wilde

Comment 1 of 1, added on June 1st, 2009 at 9:28 AM.

In the first reading of the epic Charmides, the diction comes across a little stale. However in the many years I have spent in obsessive, constant study over Wilde's dark genius I have come to an understanding of his syncopated and increasingly perpetual word magic. To read his words is to plunge oneself into a sea of emotion, a chasm of understanding, a crevass of greater spiritual intensity. I read this manuscript in trenches at normandy. My blood and tearstained manuscript is now one of my only alllies in this stark and unforgiving wasteland. America, to you I urge; read this poem not with your eyes but with your heart, and let the words wrench at your gut with the firm grasp of truth.
