I read this very moving poem for the very first time when I was a schoolgirl of 13 in India. Through it , I also learned about the Industrial Revolution.
Listening to the the recent news of the closure of Peugeot in Coventry, and hearing a comment from a friend about how eerie the area around Longbrdge (previous Rover site) looked, it suddenly struck me that the situation is the reverse of that in the poem. I wonder what Golsmith would have to say/ write about it.
