Hilaire Belloc - Henry King

The Chief Defect of Henry King
Was chewing little bits of String.
At last he swallowed some which tied
Itself in ugly Knots inside.

Physicians of the Utmost Fame
Were called at once; but when they came
They answered, as they took their Fees,
"There is no Cure for this Disease.

"Henry will very soon be dead.''
His Parents stood about his Bed
Lamenting his Untimely Death,
When Henry, with his Latest Breath,

Cried, "Oh, my Friends, be warned by me,
That Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, and Tea
Are all the Human Frame requires...''
With that, the Wretched Child expires.

Poet: Hilaire Belloc Poem: Henry King Comment 0 of , added on March 29th, 2006 at 8:21 AM. this poem was in our syllabus when we were kids; i think I must havebeen 7 or 8 yrs old; today i searched net for the same for my son to recite in his school thanx I found it here s.palan from India Comment -1 of , added on November 8th, 2005 at 9:48 AM. My daughter got this poem in school today (primary 4), she had to tell the teacher about the poem for her homework. She couldn't remember all of the poem, so I looked it up here; I am very happy this amuzing tale was brought to my attention. It's wonderful.
