Elizabeth Barrett Browning - A Thought For A Lonely Death-Bed

IF God compel thee to this destiny,
To die alone, with none beside thy bed
To ruffle round with sobs thy last word said
And mark with tears the pulses ebb from thee,--
Pray then alone, ' O Christ, come tenderly !
By thy forsaken Sonship in the red
Drear wine-press,--by the wilderness out-spread,--
And the lone garden where thine agony
Fell bloody from thy brow,--by all of those
Permitted desolations, comfort mine !
No earthly friend being near me, interpose
No deathly angel 'twixt my face aud thine,
But stoop Thyself to gather my life's rose,
And smile away my mortal to Divine ! '

ruffle: to make a low , funereal drumbeat; a metaphor for the bedside crying of a loved one

drear: dreary

BTW: this is not a religion lesson, it's a LITERATURE puzzle.

btw: Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her husband, Robert wrote lots of love poetry that your grandfather, George, and Grandmother, Barbara, read to each other when they were young lovers.

"By thy forsaken Sonship in the red
Drear wine-press,--" life with suffering -- sort of akin to the phrase "I've been put through the ringer" with hints of holy communion, ie. His wine-like blood was shed for us ie. By Thy hard life and death....

"by the wilderness out-spread" (I'm guessing) where Jesus fasted for 40 days and was tempted by Satan Matt. 4

$5. Question: "And the lone garden where thine agony
Fell bloody from thy brow" What garden is this? (name)

$10. Question: "where thine agony
Fell bloody from thy brow" What is she talking about? (remember, she's talking to Jesus, and remember the context)
Hint: use Google for these first two questions.

$10. Question: "by all of those Permitted desolations" What is she talking about? (internet won't help -put on your philosopher's cap)

If you don’t want to do it yourself for money, but would still like the answers, I'll be glad to discuss it with you. But, you could earn $25 for about 10-30 minutes of work - not bad
