The poem How the Favourite beat us was tought me by my aunt a a youg girl returning from the races in Ireland and I have never for gotten it but until today did not know it was by an Australian poet.What a strange world we live in.

I saw an audio-visual presentation some poems by Banjo Patterson while travelling on a bus from Brisbane to Melbourne some years ago and the presentation has remained with me as my enduring memory of Australia and its history.
