I love the poem. I feel like it is a romantic look at self preservation and the pursuit of eternal happiness. She is not willing to settle...she will wait for just the right merman and is perfectly happy during the process. The obsticles do not get in her way. I have not tried to evaluate a poem in many years. Hopefully, I am not way off. Check out a painting of a mermaid by Waterhouse. She is beautiful!
