Denise Austin - Power Yoga Plus [VHS]

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - good exercise video to de-stress
I exercise every day alternating videos determined by what is most needed or neglected...arms, abs, using weights or pilates to achieve the goal. I choose this video over and over after a particularly stressful day, and if I'm short on time, because I know that this is going to calm me and rejuvinate my body and spirit. I wish there were more videos out there like this that keep the movements moving without the sterile feel of so many of the video.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great exercise video
I found this video to be outstanding. Other reviews have said that she moves to fast but Denise warns at the begining that it goes fast so if you don't feel comfortable with that you should run through the video once. Also it is meant to be an exercise video, if she stopped to explain each move then 1. people would complain that she goes to slow and 2. you wouldn't get a full workout. If you want the explanation part then get pilates for dummies or another INSTRUCTIONAL video. The two twenty minute segments are great because they can be done individualy and I don't have an hour for a workout. They are challenging but it feels great and leave me excited to do it the next day. One other point, yes Denise talks throughout the video but it is only things like reminding you to breathe and important things like that. Once again this is an exercise video not a lesson in relaxation. Personally I think this video does a great job and is one that I look forward to doing.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Should not be a primary source for yoga or Pilates
I purchased this video for its brief 20-minute segments of functional yoga and Pilates. I will continue to use it for those purposes, but strongly discourage anyone who is not familiar with yoga or Pilates to use this as a beginner tape. In both segments she goes WAY to quickly through the poses and exercises. Her voice is annoyingly fake and she treats yoga purely as a fitness vehicle and doesn't seem to get its other purposes. The Kest videos are better though attending at least one class would be the best way to begin. While the Pilates segment does have some great exercises, a beginning tape like the Living Well Arts Pilates with Ana Caban is MUCH better for first timers. She (Caban) does an intermediate and advanced video also - all of which are head and shoulders (no pun intended) above this one. Bottom line is if you are familiar with funtional yoga and Pilates and want an alternative to the longer Brian Kest or LWA videos, you may find it a worthwile video. Can't say that I am thrilled to own it though.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not recommended for any level!
I agree with the reviewers that were disappointed in the tape as a whole. Her continuous babble through the whole thing is anything BUT relaxing or even instructional. I have taken yoga classes before and really enjoyed them -this was no where near that experience. I don't have another recommendation since this was my first tape but I can definitely save you from wasting your money on this one!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not that bad!
Ok so I probably know less about yoga than Denise (according to most, that isn't saying much) but for me ignorance can be bliss! I only do this on off days that I don't exercise and I just want to relax. I would never do this for my entire exercise routine! No sweat involved! The pilates section is hard and a good ab workout but I enjoy it! I do it after Blast Away 10lbs. I recommend this for the inexperienced with yoga and pilates because I would never know the difference! Poor Denise, she tries! I still like her!
