Rating: - BOOOORING!!!
I am mid-ways through the book, but I decided it's not worth my time to actualy finish it. I loved The Devil Wears Prada, but so far this one is a piece of trash. Actually, two stars is too much but I can't go back and change it.
Rating: - Good Book!
I'm not sure I agree with many of the other 1,2, & 3 star reviews, but it might have something to do with this being my first novel read written by Lauren Weisberger. No, I only saw the movie, "The Devil Wears Prada" - never read the book. So, I had nothing to compare "Chasing Harry Winston" to as far as her previous efforts. However, since I thoroughly enjoy mostly 'chick lit', I have to admit that I found this book completely enjoyable and addicting. I just couldn't put it down!
Great read if you like 'chick lit' and enjoy reading about sex, women, juicy gossip, and secrets, then this is the book for you. It might not be Award-winning, but it is a very interesting and entertaining read.
Rating: - Utter waste of time
When I saw that 14 public library patrons were ahead of me on the internet waitlist for this book, I imagined that was a good sign and that I'd be in for a real treat and a perfect vacation read. NOT! After waiting for almost 2 months for this "novel" to become available, then resisting the urge to start reading until I left on my week-long trip, I felt completely duped and cheated once I got a few pages into this book. Awful disjointed writing, transparent characters, and no plot to speak of made this book TORTURE to get through. I'm glad I took some Faulkner and Follett along with me. What a waste.
Rating: - You will love this book if you love chick lit!
If you love chick lit and have loved all of Lauren Weisberger's books, you will definitely love this book! Although many people didn't rate this book that high, I thought it was great. You can't read it expecting something profound, however it is certainly entertaining!
Rating: - Not so great
I had issues with "The Devil Wears Prada" but it was much more fun and original than this. "Chasing Harry Winston" 's an ok read to kill time, but I found it aggravating how the characters are all perfect, beautiful, with great jobs and wonderful men ath their feet (that they don't seem particularly to appreciate). OK, chick-lit isn't meant to be realistic, but I really can't relate much to these kind of characters, I prefer Bridget Jones at this point.
Like some other reviewers pointed out, I too was bugged by Emmy's "Tour de Whore". People can do what they want with their bodies, but why should women be stigmatized because they're not into casual sex? I really don't see why poor Emmy should be treated like a freak because -gasp!-at 29 she's slept with only 3 men who were all serious boyfriends?
