Rating:  - Excellent for star gazing
We purchased this to use for pointing out stars. It works beautifully, even on the clearest nights. It is easy enough to use that even my 7-year old child can accurately point at a star and ask what the star is, or trace out a constellation that she has learned. The batteries last a surprisingly long time; it's been over a year of regular use (including several sessions of more than an hour continuously), and we haven't changed the batteries once. Rating:  - Don't use for stargazing
You will be disappointed if you bought this to use for stargazing. It works fine as a pointer but the beam is too weak to see against the night sky however dark it is.

The pointer is very well built and produces a very bright light, perfect for presentations in bright rooms where other pointers are not bright enough.
