Editorial Review:

Album Description:
THE FIRST-EVER CAREER-SPANNING SINGLE DISC GREATEST HITS COLLECTION FROM ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL ARTISTS OF OUR TIME One of the best-selling albums of the Nineties, the five-times-platinum, 1990-issued The Best Of Van Morrison, is out of print. For a new, career-spanning collection from the singer-songwriter ranked in the top half of both Vh1's '100 Greatest Artists Of Rock And Roll' and Rolling Stone's 'The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time,' only one man could possibly handpick the tracks and oversee their mastering -- Van Morrison himself. That is what the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has done for Still On Top - The Greatest Hits. Spanning his work from 1964 to 2005 on a handful of different record labels, Still On Top - The Greatest Hits celebrates a singer who has influenced everyone from Bruce Springsteen and The Doors' Jim Morrison to Tom Petty and Elvis Costello. Van the Man has been hailed as one of 'popular music's true innovators, a restless seeker whose incantatory vocals and alchemical fusion of R&B, jazz, blues, and Celtic folk produced perhaps the most spiritually transcendent body of work in the rock & roll canon' (All Music Guide).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Place To Start
If you are new to Van's music or have no albums, this is a great place to start. If you own almost all his albums, like I do, then this is a great place to reexplore some amazing music in a new context and with better sound quality than some of the older CDs. Sure we can all whine that our favorite song or two are not here, but hey you read the song list before buying. This is the rare full album, 21 songs, of dreamy perfection and leg jumping inspiration. Just enjoy what it is, all of Van's music ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Killer
The only reason that I gave this collection four stars is because it doesnt feature my favorite Van track,"I'll be your lover too". Other than that, if you arent going to buy the individual albums(like me), then this is a great collection that summarizes the bulk of Van's most well loved songs. A prolific and beautiful songwriter, Van has penned timeless classics that have endured the test of time. Buy this album and go for a long drive alone with this album as your companion and you'll understand what ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Who Says What Is Great?
I am now only beginning to get into Van Morrison though I've been aware of him for a while. Who hasn't heard Brown Eyed Girl or Gloria on the radio. This album is probably a good step for some one like me who is just getting started however this album has 21 tracks and his Greatest Hits is a 2 CD set yet neither have Tupelo Honey, and this one is missing In The Mysty. This album would have been complete with those two tracks and there's a couple on here I would have gladly traded for them. So I will ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - All the Best
Love this collection. Has nearly all his best work. I can hear this over and over without tiring of the wonderful songs.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Tried and true Van Morrison
I particularly enjoy 'greatest hits' of most artists because these albums tend to weed out the songs that didn't quite make it for them. This one is typical of that genre so I feel that even though I wasn't a great fan of Van Morrison I appreciate his best efforts and end up feeling like I get my moneys worth.
