I replaced an Epson printer that I had for over 4 years and was very happy with until an envelope jammed in it and it wasn't worth repairing. Did a lot of online research because this time I wanted more features, including fax, scanner & copying. Got this at Amazon for a very good price and in the short time I have had it, I am very happy with its performance. Brand new out of the box and it malfunctions. Called Canon for tech support they said there was nothing they can do and that the warranty only provides me with a refurbished replacement. So for the same amount I paid for a brand new one, I get a used one. Don't want to hassle with anything else so that is what I'm gonna do but I am not completely satisfied.

The unit is large, but that was understood before I purchased it. Paper trays do not handle much. The unit does not weigh much at all. However, the quality and speed for a light duty machine are very good. Print detail using my MAC is excellent. For a student, your parents, or as a backup for the home office, this unit is perfect. I was excited about this all-in-one based on reviews, but I quickly discovered that its scanner--though entirely decent--had a smaller scanning bed than my 5-year-old stand alone scanner (so much for getting rid of that). The far bigger problem is that it goes through ink carts really fast and will refuse to print if it feels unhappy with its ink levels.
