I just received delivery from Amazon today (an amazing two days after I placed the Order). I loaded in the software and hooked up the scanner in about ten minutes and was already scanning. That scanner itself works as advertised. I scanned negatives that are about 15 years old. I bought the scanner primarily to preserve my dad's old 35MM slides and load them onto a digital picture frame. The 4400F is up to that task. This product is justifiably regarded as a best buy by Consumer Reports. As always, I found all of their observations and assessments to be correct. I bought this scanner to digitize a few thousand of my father's 35mm slides, many of them over 50 years old. The results exceeded my expectations. The quality of the scan is excellent. The process is more complex than the HP scanner it replaced but the quality of the scan is worth is. Great value. Highly recommended.

This product is a good first scanner for a hobbyist who wants to begin scanning images into various projects. I can only give it three stars,however, because the attachment that permits scanning slides and negatives, which is of considerable importance to me, is poorly designed. This was my second scanner. The first was a second generation model from another manufacturer and it performed the slide/negative scanning in a far superior manner.
