The Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter 4396508 is a new and improved filter that replaces the Whirlpool 4392857 Ice and Water filter. The 4396508 is certified to remove additional impurities... the 4392857 is no longer available. This filter fits most Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Kenmore refrigerators where the filter is located in the base grill, and can be used in refrigerators with any of the following water filtration systems: WF-NL240V, NL240V, WF-L400V, L400V, WF-NL300, NL300, WF-L500, L500, WF-L400, L400, WF-NL240, NL240. It can also be used to replace any of the following part numbers which may be mentioned in your manual: Whirlpool 4392857, Whirlpool 4396509, Kitchenaid 4396163, or Kitchenaid 4396547. It does not fit fridges with recently introduced 'push-button' style in-grill filters. It improves the taste and odor of the water and removes the following impurities: 99.0% of Chlorine, 95.1% of Particulates (Class II), 99.35% of Lead at pH 6.5, 99.31% of Lead at pH 8.5, 96.22% of Mercury at pH 6.5, 91.57% of Mercury at pH 8.5, 96.4% of Benzene, 99.77% of p-dichlorobenzene, 92.86% of Toxaphene, and 92.5% of Carborfuran. It Does Not Remove Flouride. Whirlpool recommends that you replace the filter every 6 months OR when the filter change indicator light comes on OR if the refrigerator has not been used for more than two weeks (for instance, during a move) OR if you notice a decrease in the flow of water or objectionable tastes in the water or ice.

Feedback I left regarding a recent order with FiltersFast was removed, so I'm reposting. I purchased 3 filters from FiltersFast pursuant to a BUY 3 AND GET FREE SHIPPING offer, which the ad stated SHIPS FROM AND SOLD BY FILTERSFAST, however I was charged for shipping. FiltersFast admits the ad is misleading and a violation of amazon's policies that prohibit sellers from posting seller-specific info, such as free shipping offers, in product descriptions, but refused to issue a refund.

I had ordered replacement filters through Whirlpool and got the wrong ones. I found this set of three which cost less than two from Whirlpool. The Whirlpool service would have been convenient if I would have gotten the correct part for a reasonable price. Don't make the same mistake I did, shop around!

These are high-quality filters, ensuring pure, taste-free drinking water from your in-door water and ice dispensing system. Buying them in the 3-pack is economical, and will last you over a year (depending on use, of course).

Used this filter for the past 5 years--never had a problem. We'll stick with Whirlpool brand.
