USB limits a cable's length to 16ft. any length above 16 feet requires the use of an active cable such as this one. This cable has a signal booster built in. The overall cable length can be extended up to 80ft by daisy chaining up to 5 of these active cables. The cable must be plugged directly into a USB port (either on the PC or a hub). I bought 2 of these and made a 32 foot connection to my device and it worked GREAT ! I needed a way to bring my computers usb 2.0 port closer to a device that cannot be moved and this baby did the job! Well worth it ! You can also put a USB hub at the end of the cable and it works well.
