Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Benny Hill's talent for visual comedy made him one of the world's most popular comedians. This compilation, which offers a typical selection of sketches from his long-running TV show, stars the lad himself along with Henry McGee, Bob Todd (who frequently demonstrates just how bad a middle-aged man can look in women's underwear), and Jack Wright (the little old man who was always getting slapped on the head).

Two hours is an awful lot of Benny, and this tape is best dipped into unless you have a very high tolerance for buxom blondes being chased at high speed by lecherous men. Hill's silent sketches, filled with rapid-fire sight gags, are what made his show successful in so many different countries. Comparisons with Chaplin and Keaton might be stretching the issue (and he does steal one gag from Jacques Tati's M. Hulot's Holiday) but this tape shows that Hill was an inventive comic writer. Highlights include a spoof of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and a sketch in which Benny portrays a gallery of '70s TV detectives, from Kojak to Ironsides.

It's impossible to escape the fact that some of the racial and sexual stereotypes in The Benny Hill Show are more likely to cause offense than laughter today. Nevetheless, if you can fast-forward through the most embarrassing sketches (Benny as an incomprehensible, squinting Chinaman, for example), there are some great gags, and although skeptics are unlikely to be converted by this marathon compilation, fans of Benny Hill will be thoroughly entertained. --Simon Leake

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good Benny Hill - Not Best of for sure
I would say this is a good example of benny hill. Was worth the money, but its sort of a crime to call it BEST Of.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Lacking
Benny Hill fans will be disappointed. Lacks some of the better skits, and the quality of the video is lacking.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hill's "dumbstick" style of comedy is underappreciated
When I was putting this tape in the VCR, my wife, unfamiliar with the comedy of Benny Hill, asked me if it was slapstick. My response was that it is "dumbstick." To me, that one word sums up the zany antics of Benny Hill. Hill is English, so some of his routines are more targeted to a British audience, yet Americans will also find it funny.
The scenes are a combination of wry looks at the camera and blatantly stupid actions combined with a lot of head-patting. One of the characters is an ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - benny's the man
I love Benny Hill. This dvd features alot of the older skits I never saw. They were very fun. Like I said Benny's the man.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The absolute worst of Benny Hill
I knew that not all of his sketches were gems, but Benny Hill has done a great number of hilarious chase scenes, pie gags, and cheeky humor. Why didn't we get THOSE sketches?
Instead, this dvd is filled with mostly low energy bits that fail to inspire a chortle. The sound and picture quality are bad too, but the sketches themselves are the greatest insult. The worst of them is saved for last, when Benny comes out dressed as an Asian man with a supreme intolerance for all races. The issue ... Read More
