Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are forever Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson in the minds of filmgoers the world over. Based on a Conan Doyle story, The Dancing Men, yet updated to modern England during wartime, Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon is fun to watch. While it doesn't sparkle to the degree of some entries in the series, a dash of patriotism and Kaaren Verne's lovely presence make it worthwhile.

I've always been leery of "colorized" BW films. Seems the color is typically "splotchy," with an unreal quality, but I found this colorized version of The Secret Weapon quite remarkable. As with The Woman in Green, also available, if I hadn't already been aware the movie was originally black and white, I would think it had been filmed initially in color! I found it that good. Being a Sherlock Holmes fan the Colourized version was very good

I ordered this version out of curiosity. When Ted Turner began colorizing films in the 80's, I was generally opposed to the idea. The few films I saw with this technique applied did not look very good (artificial-looking) and the artistry of the black and white photography seemed to be lost.
