Amazon.com:
The wondrous story of Christ's birth is told by an unlikely source: Nestor, a gentle donkey with incredibly long ears and a first-hand knowledge of life in a stable. This simple tale, which takes place in the days of the Roman Empire, is about a humble couple about to take a long journey to Bethlehem and a small, insignificant donkey who is destined to help them along. By all outward appearances, Nestor is undeserving of such a privilege. Stable animals tease him incessantly for his long appendages until, finally, he is cast out of the barn into the winter cold. Snow and ice bring about even greater calamity for Nestor until he receives a dose of divine goodness. Nestor meets Tilly, a heavenly cherub (voiced by Brenda Vaccaro) who imparts guidance to the despairing burro and tells him that soon he would be chosen to participate in a miracle involving a star and a baby, a lowly stable and some travelers named Mary and Joseph. Short and sweet, this stop-motion Christmas gem from Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass is narrated by Roger Miller. Get out the hanky for an understated holiday classic that will appeal to families of all ages. --Lynn Gibson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Heartwrenching and Beautiful
This is probably one of my all time favorite Christmas Specials! I wish they had it on DVD!

I first saw this special 17 years ago when I was 12 years old. And yes, at that poignant moment everyone has spoken of I wept. I get teary when I tell people about the special and talk about that part. Many people have never even heard of this special! It's short and sweet, and once you see it you'll want to make it part of your holiday traditions!

Many children today don't even ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Traumatized me as a child
I'm 33, and the memory of how devastated I was as a child when the mama donkey died is STILL with me. I would cry and cry. And they played it EVERY year, so it got to the point that I'd know when the part about the mama donkey dying was coming up, and I'd leave the room to go sit alone in my room and cry. This is a horrible movie to play for a child, anytime, much less during the holidays.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tear jerker
I watched this movie for the first time last night. It hurt my heart seeing how Nester was treated, thrown and tossed around like that by his ears with that horrible look on his face and then have his mother die out in the snow, dear gosh I had to get tissues. However, the ending is wonderful, I just wish it had been longer to counteract the sorrowful beginning. Its a beautiful story, I enjoy these holiday classics that talk about the true meaning of Christmas

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great story, needs work
This is about the only Christmas special that grasped my heart. But after watching Disney's Bambi and reading Felix Saltens original novel of Bambi. I noticed how for apart they were but how great Disney made the film. Most story books(Shrek, Pinnochio, ect.) have more story and random adventures that all can't be fit in. What does Disney do? He crops the story down a little to a (in respect) animated film. Looking at Nestor's special, I have to say they achieved the same thing Disney did, but there ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I bawl my eyes out every time I watch this
This is the saddest story (but, has a great ending!). And when I watch it, I cry like a baby. Sheesh! I'm a man, 39 years old. Awesome family movie with a positive message (even if you're not religious).
